Student Scholarship Program

At the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta, we are fully committed to fostering the professional growth and educational advancement of Child and Youth Care Counsellors. We are thrilled to award two scholarships to our student members pursuing a career in this rewarding field.

*Please note that students are eligible to apply for one of the two scholarships available.

Scholarships Awarded: One

Amount: $500

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrolled in the second to fourth year of the CYC program in an accredited college or university (online or in-person)
  • Current student membership with the Child and Youth Care Association of Alberta in good standing
  • Volunteering or working in the sector supporting children or youth
  • Academically in good standing with college or university
  • Current Resident of Alberta

Application Requirements:

  • Cover letter from the student outlining Child and Youth Care graduation objective
  • Two reference letters from a Practicum Supervisor, College Instructor/Professor, Supervisor or Spiritual Advisor; must indicate the name of the scholarship (General)

  • Two reference letters from a Practicum Supervisor, College Instructor/Professor, Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Band council representative or Spiritual Advisor must indicate the name of the scholarship (Indigenous)

Student Membership Information

Student Membership: $20.00/year

Eligibility: An individual currently enrolled in a post-secondary CYC program in Alberta, or an individual whose permanent address is in Alberta but enrolled in a virtual post-secondary CYC program out of the province.

This membership is a yearly fee. All student members receive one FREE year of membership following graduation upon proof of graduation.

Proof of enrollment is required each year.

Scholarship Operational Procedures

The following information details the operational procedures to be followed each year to ensure that the conferring of CYCAA’s scholarship awards is done in an open, transparent and accountable manner.

Student Eligibility

All 2nd, 3rd and 4th year Students must be members in good standing of the CYCAA.

Call for Submissions

The Call for Submissions will be sent to all active student members and will be open for at least 21 calendar days.

The Call for Submissions will be widely disseminated utilizing all appropriate CYCAA communications vehicles.

CYCAA keeps all submissions confidential to respect privacy and to avoid disappointment if the student is not selected. All others involved are asked to similarly respect this policy.

Filing of Student Documents

Student submissions shall be in writing (electronic upload only) and must be received by office administration on or before the specified deadline. The submission form must be accompanied by all required supporting documentation.

Review of Submissions

The Award Committee is responsible for reviewing each submission and selecting an individual(s) as worthy recipient(s).

As soon as is reasonably possible following the close of the Call for Submissions, the CYCAA Award Committee will meet to review all nominations.

If no suitable submissions are received for any given honour, no award will be conferred.

CYCAA retains the right to refuse any or all submissions at its sole discretion.

The Award Committee’s recommendations shall be forwarded to the Board of Directors for ratification.

Notification

All Scholarship winners will be notified of the decision of the Board of Directors by the Executive Board, by telephone whenever possible, as soon as is possible after the ratification vote.
