2023 Child and Youth Care Week

May 5, 2023

We are delighted to celebrate Child and Youth Care Week 2023. Your work is critical, and your impact on the lives of children, youth, and families is immeasurable. As a Child and Youth Care Practitioner, you play a vital role in promoting emotional, social, and behavioral change and well-being in children, youth, and families in Alberta.

Through the relationships that are created, children and youth develop life and social skills, and access to community resources. Your attention and devotion to creating capacity and providing guidance creates resiliency regarding mental health issues, behavioral challenges, or addictions. The role you play in supporting children, youth and their families who are going through difficult situations improve the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social development of vulnerable children, youth, and families.

The work you do is guided by essential elements of a relationship: caring, knowledge, and respect. You demonstrate concern for the life and growth of the person through relationship, seeing a person as they are and walking with them. Your commitment to these elements is a testament to your professionalism and dedication to the well-being of children, youth, and families.

As we celebrate Child and Youth Care Week 2023, it is with gratitude to our Child and Youth Care members for the vital role in supporting and empowering vulnerable children, youth, and families. Your commitment to promoting emotional, social, and behavioral change and well-being using daily life events as a teaching tool. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and compassion.
