Hello and welcome to the CYCAA website and
more specifically to the Certification Page. By visiting this page you
are showing your interest in and support for the delivery of quality
services to children and families in Alberta.
It is a fundamental belief of the
Certification Program that Child and Youth Care Practitioners should set
and monitor the standards that guide good practice in our profession.
There is often debate around the question
“Are we a Profession”. There are important initiatives such as the push
for legislation and achievements like the new CYC degree program at
MacEwan College that advance the cause of professionalization on a
systems level.
It is my belief that the most powerful step
each of us can take is to become a professional individually, and
becoming certified is an important part of being a professional.
I hope that your journey through the
Certification process goes smoothly and is successful. By taking this
important step you help the cause of professionalism in our field and
ultimately you help to raise the level of quality of the service that
Alberta’s children receive.
I would like to recognize and thank the
efforts of our current Certification Board (Susanne Debney, Berry Goble,
Sabrina Brock, Mary Desjarlais and Mike Sorensen). I would also like to
commend our two Certification Coordinators (Rick Oliver and Shaun
Holmstrom) who do a tremendous job keeping the process relevant and
evolving.
